C.A.T.T

Coalition Against Toxic Toys (CATT) is a group started by Smitten Kitten, has a mission "to demystify the adult sex toy industry and positively transform socially irresponsible, environmentally and personally hazardous sex toy manufacturing and sex toy sales practices."
I first found out about then through the Sex is Fun Podcast. And I really agree with what they are saying. Really what got me was not just the environmental friendly but that some toys are actually putting toxic things INSIDE YOU! It make me shiver. Though I do think my blue dildo may not have the best thing in it. It still said no phalates... And I really love it. I am willing to take the bad with that one.

What are phalates? A "toxic chemical "plasticizer" softeners used in PVC to make it soft and flexible" Other things found in toys can be stuff like polystyrene. Both of which are industrial grade chemicals not fit for intimate use. Intimate... as in something I am sticking in my pussy, mouth or ass. Just makes me shiver.

Actually if you look at some packaging at stores the toy its self says for like novelty use only. Meaning that its not "actually" meant to be used as a sex toy. And since the sex toy industry is not federally regulated anything can come out as as sex toy.

According to the Sex is fun podcast one of the easiest ways to figure out if a toy is good is the Smell Test™. Unsafe toys often have an obvious chemical or plastic smell, this is caused by release of chemicals into the air through off-gassing. Again if you can smell the chemicals coming off whats coming off when you play with it?

On a cleaning note. Many toys can be very porous. (like the electrical cord dildo my sir made for me) This can cause tiny micro-organisms, such as bacteria, viruses and fungi to get caught inside. These can cause infections despite even the most diligent cleaning efforts. (I practically boil my cord dildo) Sex toys should be non-porous. Examples of safe, non-porous materials include; high-quality silicone, glass, surgical steel, ceramic and medical grade plastics.
