For December, the book club hosted a special event - a lecture and discussion on sexual identity by Allan Hunter. A sociology, feminism, gender identity, and sexual identity writer. It was very fun. We met in the Boston University Women's Resource Center. Which was a nice little comfy setting. Lots of couches and pillows, it was like sitting in a very big living room. Thus is was super informal and towards the end it sort of became all of us talking about our own personal feeling on gender and the feminine or the masculine. The basis for Mr. Hunter's lecture was his paper entitled, "Same Closet, Different Door: A Heterosexual Sissy's Coming-Out Party," which can be read online here: http://home.earthlink.net/~ahunter/Same_Closet_Diff_Door/hpsissy.html
His lecture had a lot to do with his childhood and how he came to understand himself as a heterosexual feminine man. I always enjoy hearing about how different people work with gender and gender roles.
